MARCH 2002

For the February meeting, Mr. Keith Jones entertained us with a heart warming talk on his Hedgehog-Helpline Charity.

His caring organisation has helped, thousands of hedgehogs - over a twenty year period - to return to their natural habitat after injury or abandonment.

Sadly, we often injure these gentle creatures in our gardens where they hibernate under piles of leaves and in compost heaps. They are also endangered by our use of strimmers.

Thankfully the Helpline is on hand to assist.

Another task undertaken by the charity is the hand rearing of young hedgehogs which have been born too late in the season and, being underweight, are unlikely to survive hibernation.

Mr. Jones brought two hedgehogs along for us to see them being handled. One was an amputee, soon to be released and a born performer, but the other was rather shy and remained in a tight ball, ignoring us all!

A fascinating evening, enjoyed by all.

Our next meeting is on Tuesday, 12th March, 2002, when Mr. Stephen Chappell will be giving a talk on Homeopathy. All are welcome.

We meet at Llanvaches Church Hall at 7.30p.m. on the second Tuesday of the month.

JAR.
