I am trying to trace the origin of the surname Wattrus. Family history says our ancestors came from Wales originally. My research seems to indicate the family migrated along the River Wye. Can anyone perhaps give me their views on this theory? Wishing you the best for Christmas and the year 2001, Mike

Congratulations on a very good site. I'll mention it in the March edition of the Gwent Family History Society Journal (I'm the editor) because anything that gives a link to our ancestors or our wonderful county has to be a good thing! If you would like to join the Gwent FHS check out our website at http://welcome to/Gwent FHS or email me.

I'm looking for the ancestors of the Arnold Family of Itton Common, and of Thomas Arnold of Caerwent, who married Rachel Bowen at Caerwent by banns on the 9th June 1772 at Caerwent Church.

A splendid idea. I am looking for details of Thomas MORGAN who, in 1861, gave his place of birth as Llanvair, Monmouth. I have not been able to find his birth, which would have been about 1829. Thomas became a docker in Newport. His mother, Elizabeth, came from Churcham, Gloucestershire. Any information about the MORGANS most gratefully received. Congratulations on an excellent site!

Congratulations on the new site. I'm researching the HALE name in the Caerwent, St
Brides, Caldicot and Magor areas and would welcome contact with anyone local who is doing
the same.
