December 2002

Dear Friends,

The Annual General Meeting.
This was quite well attended. The trustees were reappointed. We decided to raise the annual subscription to £5 per household, £3 per individual member, and to make our reference Library available to everybody in the Caerwent area. Publications available to order, see below.

In preparation are the Memoirs of Tonny Thomas which cover Llanfair and Caerwent from the beginning of the last century.

Later in the new year we shall be able to offer Mr C. W. Alexander's detailed history of the Factory (now Caerwent Training Area). The print quality will be more durable as we now have a laser printer, thanks to a grant from the County Council and the support of the Community Council.

MIDWINTER SUNRISE ON GRAY HILL
Have you seen the sun rise in line with the standing stones that were set up 4000years ago?

The alignment will be still exact on Sunday 22nd December this year, so meet us at the triangle, above Llanfair Discoed at 7.50am and we will guide you to the spot, weather permitting.
To tell the truth the winter solstice is at 1:OOam next morning, so we'll go both days, Sunday and Monday!
