February 2002

Dear Friends,

The year had a sad start for our Trust: two of our Patrons died in January, Les Bulley on the 7th and Dorothy Meek on the 13th.

Both have made a huge contribution to our understanding of the history ofCaerwent, and of course been a great encouragement to us in setting up the Trust.

Within the next few days a large proportion of our Library will be available to members - details to be circulated. There will be about 50 items, mainly reprints of articles etc., relevant to the history of Caerwent and its environs, plus the index to all major publications that Mark Lewis has prepared for us.

So far as extracts from old Newsletters are concerned, Hilary has asked us to select from the collection which our members have now made available.

It seems fitting this month to use one preserved from the days of her youth by Mrs Meek, written by the Vicar of the time, who was a great friend of her father.

Best wishes
John Nettleship
