CHAIRMAN'S NEWSLETTER

May 2001

The Trust is at a very early stage but we feel that we are making good progress.

Mark Lewis is compiling an index for us of all publications we can find which refer to the history of Caerwent, ancient or recent. The list currently stands at about 150 titles and should soon double in size.

We have also started on our library collection, which stands at over 20 items. These are mainly reprints or photocopies. The library too should double in size soon and we will take steps in the summer to make it publicly available.
A key item in our library is the collection of old Community Newsletters. This was kick-started for us by Terry and Ruth Jones, who gave us 19 copies from 1974 to 1976. The issues we especially want are the very first (May or June 1974 we think) and August to November 1974. If you find that you have one of these please let us make a photocopy of it - we'll give it straight back to you!
If you can also find July to October 1978 and February to October 1979 we shall have access to the complete set!

From now onwards we were hoping to advertise visits to local historic sites, guided footpath walks and visits to Dinham (Caerwent Training Area). These are of course postponed until the Foot-and-Mouth emergency is over.

If you can lend any of the old newsletters, suggest or offer us anything for our collection, please contact the following Trustees:

    Best wishes
