CAERWENT SHOW REPORT 2001

What a lovely day we had for the Show - once again lucky with the weather! In recent years the Show has grown and has now become quite a local event. There was a good crowd out on the field and, from what we've heard, they all appeared to enjoy themselves.
The car boot sale went very well and there were plenty of stands and stalls for people to spend their money on. There was also fun and games for the youngsters, from pony rides to a coconut shy and Coco the Clown, plus entertainment during the afternoon in the show ring.

Brian Counsell won the raffle for a flight in the hot air balloon (something he has wanted to do for a long time, so he was pleased), and Val Venables won £10 for choosing the bonus ball (number 3) on the Saturday night's lottery draw.
We are very grateful to Ray Hannan for all his efforts in taking on the bulk of the Show work, and we also wish to thank the Show sponsors - Dewstow Golf Club, Mr Brian Lewis of Llanfair Discoed, Mr Davies of Byeways, Tom Lewis of Lewis Electricals (an advertiser in this newsletter), Derek May of DCM Contractors and Nigel Hodges of Highfield, Caerwent.
Particular thanks to the lads (and lasses) of the Junior Committee (especially Nick Hodges, lan Williams and Mark Gardner) for helping so ably every year, Dai Bennett for the use of the car parking field and the loan of bales for seating. Also all others that helped behind the scenes to get the whole show on the road. Many thanks!!
Thanks also to those who donated raffle prizes (especially David Hedley of Foxrun) and finally all those of you who bought tickets, spent your money and supported the day by being there!

I'm very pleased to say that the total number of Flower & Vegetable Show exhibits was up this year from 215 last year to 285! This made the judges work far more difficult, but they were all pleased to see some really excellent entries. We were told that some were outstanding - praise indeed from a Show Judge! The flower and vegetable sections were well entered as always, as was the cookery section.
We were pleased to see some new faces entering their exhibits, and hope it has given them an incentive for next year. There was also an increase in entries for both the junior and adult sections of art and craft which was very rewarding.

Congratulations to the cup winners who were as follows:
