POLICE NOTES
|
I hope that everyone had on en.joyable crime free Easter. This month I'd like to explain various other offences that regularly occur in Caldicot, in addition to the usual topics. RECENT CRIME PATTERNS Unfortunately, there are still regular shed burglaries and theft from vehicles occurring in the Caldicot area. We know of a few groups, predominantly males, who travel around at night checking cars and sheds etc. for articles to steal. PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE ANYTHING ATTRACTIVE IN SIGHT IN YOUR CAR OVERNIGHT. Also make sure that your garage and shed are locked when unattended. Remember, if you see or hear anything suspicious, dial 999! On the other hand, crime rates, by national standards, are very low in Caerwent. ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR Over the last two months in Caldicot there have been a few young people (and I stress, only a few) who have been making life very difficult for customers entering shops. They have been loitering outside the shops and, when asked to move aside, have become verbally abusive, swearing etc. at these customers. This form of behaviour is very intimidating and worrying for the law abiding citizens going about their business. The police and Monmouthshire County Council take this anti-social behaviour very seriously and are now starting to apply for ANTI SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR ORDERS against these individuals. This may result in them being banned from the relevant street or even town, and their families, in extreme cases, evicted from council property. If you have been the victim of this sort of abuse, don't hesitate to inform the police. I emphasise that this behaviour is only carried out by a very small percentage of young people. NUISANCE AND ABUSIVE TELEPHONE CALLS It is against the law to make nuisance, threatening, abusive or false emergency calls over a telephone. Virtually, all phone calls are traceable. There have been a couple of incidents recently where people in CAERWENT have received such calls. I am investigating one such incident at present. If sufficient evidence is found, a prosecution will take place. Unfortunately, with the explosion of ownership of mobile phones, incidents of this nature are now more common. PEDAL CYCLE POSTCODING As advertised last month I will be available to postcode anyone's pedal cycle, who would like them marked, at the following dates and times:
BOGUS OFFICIALS Remember to always ask for proof of identity and check the identity of any unknown caller to your address. If they are genuine they won't mind showing it. If you are at all suspicious then refuse them entry and ring the police. There have been a couple of bogus official distraction burglaries in the Chepstow and Monmouth area recently. As always, if you see a crime being committed or have information on a crime that has been committed, contact the police immediately. Until next month. Ashley Turner.
