Caerwent Community Neighbourhood Watch
POLICE NOTES
|
Spring will soon be upon us and. a lot of people's attention will turn to gardening and other outside activities. Criminals know that there is a ready "market" for stolen lawnmowers, chainsaws, shredders and similar power tools. Make sure that you check the security of your shed, garage or other storage area and see if it can be improved. I will provide some more information on this next month. POST CODING OF PEDAL CYCLES AND OTHER PROPERTY The constabulary is shortly introducing a new system of post-coding pedal cycles and other property. At present bikes have to be stamped and the property is just marked as and when required. Within the next few weeks the new system will take effect. This involves the use of proper stick-on serialised metal plates which are virtually indestructible and the use of ultra violet pens to mark pedal cycles in at least three further places. A central. computer data base will he kept of bike owners and their relevant serial numbers. The system which has been demonstrated to me appears to be very good. All patrol cars will be issued with an ultra violet torch so that officers can check suspect bikes to see if they have been reported as stolen. I therefore propose to make myself available for two evenings, one at the Old Gym and another at the Community Hall. This will give members of the community a chance to get their bikes "stickered" and recorded. I will finalise dates and publish them next month. RECENT CRIME PATTERNS Our crime has fallen sharply in the last month owing to the main offender who had just moved to Magor being locked up on remand. However there is another group of newly arrived criminals who are active burglars. They may possibly target CAERWENT. Make sure that you never leave any doors or windows unlocked or open when you go out or go to bed. CONTINUING THE ARTICLES ON DRUGS... WHAT ARE THE SHORT TERM EFFECTS? Once swallowed the effects start after approximately 30 minutes and can last for eight to twelve hours. The effect is called a "trip" and the user may have hallucinations in which they have disturbed images, colours and sounds. The effects can depend on the user's mood and surroundings. Once a "trip" starts it cannot be stopped. Bad "trips" can be particularly frightening. WHAT ARE THE LONG TERM EFFECTS? LSD is not physically addictive, but tolerance can develop. Regular users can often feel very out of touch with reality. Flashbacks can occur and it can trigger off mental problems. This is particularly dangerous if they work with machinery or drive vehicles etc. LSD is a class 'A' drug. Until next month. Ashley Turner. PC 737, Community Police Constable |
