POLICE NOTES

NOVEMBER 2001

Well, summer is over and the evenings are drawing in - now is a good time to get cycle lights purchased or checked. Cycle lights, besides being legally required, really do help to prevent accidents and save lives.

On Saturday, 29th September, there was a serious road traffic accident at the eastern entrance to the village from the A48. If anyone has any information regarding this incident that they haven't given to the police, please contact me or Caldicot Police Station.
The reference to quote is - Police Log No. 161, dated 29 September 01.

There have been further incidents of suspicious persons in rear gardens and breaking into vehicles over the last few weeks.

Remember - if you see anything suspicious contact the police immediately, if a crime is actually being committed, dial 999.

CONTINUING THE ARTICLES ON DRUG ABUSE.

AMPHETAMINES

Amphetamines are synthetic powders available in tablet, capsule and powder form, sometimes in combination with other drugs to form a cocktail.
The capsules or tablets take many forms but the powder is normally white (though it can be pink) with white or orange-brown lumps present.

It is most commonly distributed in paper "wraps", a do-it-yourself type of envelope, about 1" x ½", folded to safeguard the contents. Corners of pages of glossy magazines are often used to make these 'wraps'.
It can be diluted and then injected.

THE EFFECTS: Amphetamines stimulate the nervous system to increase energy, alertness and confidence, allowing long periods without sleep.
Adverse reactions include loss of appetite, mood swings, aggression, insomnia or disturbed sleep, exhaustion and uncomfortable itching.

This extreme tiredness is referred to as "CABBAGED" by some users and can last up to three days. High doses, repeated over a few days, may cause the user to have panic attacks and hallucinate. Long term use puts a strain on the heart and long term use can lead to mental illness.
Mixing VIAGRA with AMPHETAMINES may increase the risk of heart problems. Sudden weight loss over one or two months indicates possible use of amphetamines.

PENALTIES: Possession of the drug is a class B but if prepared for injection then it becomes class A.

More next month.

Best wishes.
Ashley Turner.
