Caerwent Playing Fields Committee Happy New Year to you all! I hope the children all enjoyed themselves at our two Christmas Parties. We had 58 children in the younger age group with Erbie the Clown and 30 for the Hoedown, the hall will never be the same with so many falling off the bucking reindeer. Thanks to everyone who helped on the two days and put the decorations up in the hall. Also the local businesses who donated food etc, or money, towards the cost – Caerwent Community Council, The Northgate, Coach & Horses, Rock & Fountain, Memory Lane Cakes and Bennetts Farm Special thanks go to Lesley Evans who did a great job organising both parties. Without Lesley there would not have been parties for the children this year, and she tells us this was the last one she will organise, so if you want parties for the children again we need someone to organise them – don’t put it off until next winter, come forward NOW, or it wont happen. We have put together a program of events for this year which is shown later in this magazine. Some dates are not confirmed, as I write this, and are shown with a question mark after the date. Back by popular demand is Frank Hennessy and Friends (April 27th) we had a super night last year so book you tickets early. We have received quite a lot of requests for a Gardiners Question Evening (Mid May) and to bring back the CEILiTH (June 23rd). We are putting on a Fun Day (July 7th) more details later in the year and our annual show will be on September 1st this year – start planting your vegetables and painting a picture! Car boots every third Saturday from April to September. Our first event in 2007 is a QUIZ NIGHT. On the 26th January at 7:30pm, in the hall.Entry Fee £1 per adult, come with your team or make one up on the night. Bring your own drinks and snacks for a fun night. Our second event is a Cinema Night is on February 23rd Tickets are on sale at the door, but remember numbers are limited, if you want to pre-book your ticket, give me a ring, as we want people from the village to have first option on the seats. As always if there is some kind of entertainment you would like to see in the hall let me know. Remember ALL the profits (if any) go back into the hall and playing fields. Congratulations to the December winners of the 200 club
We have struggled with the 200 Club over the last two years, and not enough people are in it to make it viable any longer, therefore we will only be holding three more draws, January, February and March when the annual subscription is due. If you pay by standing order, please cancel this from April. Thanks to everyone who has supported this and to Lesley who has administered it for the last few years. Newsletter subscriptions @ £3.50 for the year are now due. Two of our villagers are off on an “Awesome Trek” beginning 21st July in aid of Cancer Research Wales. Stewart Stirling and Derrick Williams are walking across the entire Pyrenees from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean – 500 miles in 50 days and 150000 feet of ascent. They are holding two functions in the hall 17th March and 14th July to help raise, much needed, money. See the poster later in this magazine and give them as much support as you can for this very worthy cause. We hope to see you all in the hall soon.
