Caerwent Playing Fields Committee I am pleased to report that the Cinema Night was a great success with over 80 people enjoying Wallace & Gromit. Many of you have spoken to me since the showing to say how much you enjoyed the evening, thanks for that. We hope to hold a regular film night, once a month throughout next winter. Our next “Night Out” is on Saturday 24th March featuring the Celtic Folk music of “The Hennessys”, there will be 5 artists performing – Frank Hennessy, supported by Dave Burns and Iolo Jones, plus two featured artistes, songs from Heather Jones and stand up poetry from John Prior. The show commences at 8pm. We will be serving a ploughman’s supper and there will be a licensed bar. Tickets £6 and £5 for concessions are already selling well, and with limited numbers available, if you want to come give me a ring to book your tickets before they all go. On the night we will also be selling tickets for A Tribute to Gilbert & Sullivan - Saturday 20th May. On April 22nd we will be having our first Car Boot for this year, and in the evening of Saturday 22nd we are planning a wine & cheese evening, with a wine tasting competition. Tickets, probably £3 each to cover the cheese and tasting wines. Prizes for the most correct, the most original description and the most amusing. Come along for a bit of fun. As always look for the posters around the village and in next months newsletter, or give me a ring. You may not be aware but with the new licensing laws, which came into effect last November, we can only have 10 bars in the hall per annum without a specific premises licence. I am very pleased that Annie from the Coach & Horses has offered to join the committee and to hold the premises license for the hall. This is the ideal solution to our problem and we are very grateful to Annie and Brian. Our next major expenditure on the hall, apart from routine maintenance, is to update the bar area and we are waiting for the estimates to come in. Our AGM is to be held on Wednesday 12th April, please come along to air your views and let us know what you want from the hall. We desperately need new committee members and if you want to see a repeat of last years most successful show ever, we need volunteers and helpers on show day, otherwise it could be doubtful if we will be able to hold the show this year. I am pleased to welcome two new committee members Annie Parsifal and Paul Wherry, but we do need more people so please come along to the AGM. Congratulations to the February winners of the 200 club
We drew two numbers this month where people hadn’t paid, so they were taken out of the draw. The easiest way is to fill out a standing order, or pay Muriel at the post office monthly if you don’t want to pay annually. We still have numbers available for the 200 Club. Please contact Lesley Evans on 01291 420327. Remember the more people in it – the more the prize money will be. We hope to see you all in the hall soon. David Hedley Chairman Tel 01291 425455
Have you something to include in the newsletter, an engagement, a marriage, a birth, an anniversary or a remembrance. Perhaps you want to sell something or buy something? Give Nichola Jones a ring on 01291 425377. |
