As the winter weather draws in and our thoughts turn to Christmas shopping - it's got to be done whether you love it or hate it! To to make life easier we have arranged a Christmas Shopping Night in the Hall on Thursday 14 November. There will be plenty of opportunities to buy gifts - from chocolates and toys to the practical and the beautiful. During the evening there will be floral demonstrations and gifts available from Crown Hill Nurseries. The Playing Fields Committee is organising two tables during the evening - Chocaholics, which has a catalogue of beautiful chocolate gifts ranging from 20p to expensive, and Baker Ross toys, whose catalogue has a range of toys from stocking fillers to quality gifts for older children. You can buy on the night, but if you are unable to come to the Shopping Night, we can drop in catalogues if you would like to place an order beforehand. Please contact Toni on 424262 for a catalogue, and return your order to her. Admission on the night is 50p, which includes a glass of mulled wine. There will also be tea, coffee, cakes and hand made pizza available. Transport can be arranged for anyone needing a lift that evening, please ring Caroline on 420001 to make arrangements. The more orders and sales we take, the more commission we make for the Playing Fields, so please come along and kill two birds with one stone - make an early start on your Christmas shopping and support your village hall - I promise you'll feel all the better for it! Now on to other things. During the month we were dancing to the live band 'Moonlighting' at the beginning of October and the children were having a good time at the Hallowe'en Disco on the 1st of November. As you can see, things are picking up with the Playing Fields Committee and we are offering a wider variety of events which, as they continue, we hope will interest everyone in the community. If there is a particular event you would like to attend or take part in, please let us know and we will try to arrange it. Some ideas that we have for the first part of next year are a Race Night, a table top sale, a ceilidh with hog roast, an auction and something for Valentines Night - so there's plenty of thought and enthusiasm going into it. Other than that we continue, as ever, with Hall maintenance - there's electrical work to be done and drain soakaways to be re-dug. We will be meeting with Officers of Monmouthshire County Council during November for the initial assessment of the Hall regarding the installation of disabled facilities. We are hoping that this work will be undertaken during the next financial year and have to apply for grant aid to cover the estimated costs of around £35,000. Whatever fundraising strategies we take, there will always be major improvements that need to be made Please note: Playing Fields Committee meetings will be held on the THIRD MONDAY OF EACH MONTH from now on, at 7:30pm in the hall Yours sincerely, Hilary Hilary Counsell, Secretary Telephone 01291-421307 |
