Caerwent Playing Fields Association

NEWSLETTER

June 2002

We are looking for good quality unwanted items for our car boot stalls, if you have any items that you would like to donate (proceeds to the village hall) please contact me. Look out for the car boot signs at the end of the month (I can't remember the date!).

There have been several suggestions already for different events and functions, including ones that involve different age groups in the community - we'll keep you posted when the details arediscussed and finalised.

Hopefully Monmouthshire County Council will have started on the refurbisliment of the roundabout by now, we are conscious that it needs to be done urgently. We are also looking at having the football pitch levelled, it has become quite damaged and is not good enough for the East Gwent League. At present it can only be used for mini football i.e., 7-11 year olds.

The hall has recently become available for bookings on two evenings during the week - Tuesday and Thursday - it is also available during the day on most weekdays. If you know of any groups or clubs that would be interested please ask them to contact the Booking Clerk on 01291-425867.

Next Playing Fields committee meeting will be on Monday 10 June at 7.30pm in the hall. By the time this Newsletter arrives on your doormat, all the arrangements will be in place for the Golden Jubilee Celebrations. Now that we have much more support on the committee, the arrangements have been so much easier to make. There have been several meetings to plan and arrange the events on the Bank Holiday Monday. It is so nice to have helpers in other areas too, such as the Computer Club making up notices for us and Bryan Morgan taking over the production of the Newsletter front covers (which have been the bane of my life!). He tells me he's got millions of photographs to choose from, so you may see a photo of somewhere near you soon.

There will be committee members either phoning or knocking doors around the village asking for help with the picnic tea - contributions of a plate of food such as sandwiches, sausage rolls, cakes, etc., and they will also be selling tickets for the dance in the evening. We'll have two live bands playing (not at the same time!) and the £5 ticket cost covers a fish and chip supper. There's 200 tickets to sell and they're going fast - so you will need to buy them as soon as you can. If you are interested in music of the era - come to the tea dance in the Hall from 5pm. You don't have to dance if you don't want to, but you may like to watch a couple of the 'experts' take to the floor, then get all nostalgic over the music! We are hoping that it will be remembered as a very special day that brought out the community spirit and everyone joined in with the fun.

The Playing Fields committee would like to thank Caerwent Community Council, Rogiet Primary School PTA and Net Associates Ltd for their generous contributions towards the Golden Jubilee events. Their support is much appreciated. Other contributions have also been promised, a full list will appear in next month's newsletter.

Yours sincerely,

Hilary
