Caerwent Playing Fields Association

NEWSLETTER

March 2002

Hopefully the scramble net unit has now been taken away from the playing field. Although this has been a piece of equipment that has been well used by youngsters over a long period of time, we have been advised that the structure is unsafe and should be dismantled. This has been arranged with the firm that completed the refurbishment of the scramble net some time ago and we have been successful in claiming a refund fof their work. The rest of the play equipment needs some maintenance work done on it, and we are in the process of getting quotes for this. We would like the work completed as soon as possible so that it will be ready to play on during the better weather.

As I mentioned in the last Newsletter, lan Venables will be leaving the committee at the end of this month which leaves us short of a Treasurer. If anyone is interested in this voluntary post, please get in touch with me as soon as possible. We are hoping that a new Treasurer can be appointed during March, after the AGM.

The AGM of the Playing Fields committee will be held on Monday 4 March at 8pm - if you are interested in joining the committee, or taking over the Treasurer's post, please come along to the village hall on the night. We are short of numbers on the committee and need to take on new members - we are interested in anyone living in the community, but particularly in parents with young children as they are likely to have a long term interest in the hall and playing field.

We need some fresh ideas for fund raising and for social events, we also need a whole new group of people to come along to the events that we put on in the hall to increase the attendance and make them productive fund raisers.

While I'm on that point, we will be holding a Race Night on Friday 19 April, under starter's orders at 7.30pm, with the first race at 8pm. This is a really good night, you can sponsor a race, buy a racehorse or just put on bets at £1 each. The tote pays out cash prizes if you back the race winners and there are also bottles of bubbly to be won by the owners. Why not come along and have a good night out - cheer your chosen horses along and help them to win!

Yours sincerely,

Hilary
