Caerwent Playing Fields Association

NEWSLETTER

January 2002

I hope everyone has enjoyed the sight of the Christinas tree on the Roman wall this year, it's looked really beautiful.
Thanks to Brian Counsell for putting it up and taking it down and, thankfully, it hasn't needed any running repairs.
For those that don't know, the Christmas tree is a joint venture, with the Playing Fields paying for the tree and the lights and the Community Council paying for the electricity. It is a sight that everyone in the community can enjoy.

The Christmas walks in the old Royal Naval Propellant Factory site (now a military training area) were very successful. The weather was perfect for walking off the Christmas cheer - cold and bright.
The route walks were well organised and altogether over 500 (yes - Five Hundred!) people took part, either on foot, bike or by car. The only area that was not well supported was the skateboarding. Nevertheless, many people took the opportunity to look around inside the boundary fence, and we thank Ray Hannan for organising the weekend and Major Hughes for giving permission for it to take place. The Playing Fields Association thanks all who made donations.
Ray is hoping to be able to arrange another weekend in the summer.

I'll be giving you some dates for your diary next month - we'll be looking at arranging a Race Night in March or April. Let me know if you would be interested in a Rock n' Roll dance in May - we can arrange it if there's a good crowd that would like to go.

We will be sending out reminders this month that the annual payments for the 200 Club are due in February. If anyone would like to join, now is the time to let me know. You have the chance to win cash prizes each month for a payment of just £1.00 per month, paid annually. Contact me for details.

Yours sincerely, 'til next time,

Hilary
