Caerwent Playing Fields Association

NEWSLETTER

March 2001

You will have seen from the Newsletter last month that a Junior Committee was in the process of being set up. This is now in operation, with young people having regular meetings and reporting back to the Playing Fields Committee on their news and views. The Playing Fields Committee has agreed to consider any items they bring forward and hope to work together with the youngsters to include them in future plans for the hall and playing field, also to encourage them to take an active part in village developments.

Now that the better weather is arriving we are having a return of the same old problem with dogs on the field. May I ask you once again not to let your dogs foul the playing field. Please don't let dogs run loose on the field, and if you exercise them then take a plastic bag with you and pick up after them. As the name suggests this is a playing field and from now on through the spring and summer months will be used by toddlers and young people, as well as teams playing sports, etc.
If we find there are regular offenders who let their dogs foul the playing field, we shall be informing Environmental Health and asking them to take matters further.

Another problem which has reared its head again recently is cars on the field - we ask that residents neighbouring the field contact the police with the registration number of cars seen being driven on the field - meanwhile we are having to think about various types of barriers to keep them off the grass.

At the last meeting, the committee agreed to the refurbishment of the scramble net framework. This is a very expensive business, as we will be using a rope that is reinforced with wire - hopefully rot and vandal free. The structure will also include a series of climbing poles with the addition of a thick gymnasuirn type rope to pull on, the top section to be filled in with poles to get from one end to the other. Total cost will be £1750.20 - but should provide an interesting and challenging piece of play equipment which I'm sure children will enjoy.

Don't forget the Playing Fields Annual General Meeting will be held on the 5th March at 8:00pm in the Hall.

We will be looking at events we've held over the past 12 months, the money we've raised and where it's been spent, also plans we have for the future.
All people living within the community are welcome. We will be very pleased to see you there and your suggestions and views will be more than welcome - if you would like to join the committee and help out, even better.

Car Boot Sales - we have decided on dates for this year, they won't all be on the last Saturday of the month as we have usually had them in the past, as we have to hold them on Saturdays when members are available to help on the day.
For this year they will be on:
  • April 28
  • May 19
  • June 30
  • July 21
  • September 1
  • September 22
I'll put regular reminders in Newsletters throughout the spring and summer.

The 200 Club: As I mentioned in the last Newsletter, the annual payments are due now, so if yours is still oustanding please make payment as soon as possible to avoid us having to take your number out!
