My Dear Friends,

Newness seems to have a magical magnetic quality. It attracts public attention and draws huge crowds into the great cathedrals of modern consumerism. There it successfully sucks money out of the pockets and purses of millions at twice the speed of intelligent thought - especially if it is half-price newness and plastic money!

But newness tends to fade rapidly. The only way to preserve things in their original colour, shape and beauty is by careful disuse or by treating them like primitive idols - little artificial gods that hold us under their non-existent power.

Oldness also has its appeal. There is something very comforting and reassuring about something that has lasted a very long time. Perhaps this is because our own lives are so short, we are not here for very long!

That which is eternal is more secure than that which is merely old and far more trustworthy than that which is no more than ancient.

To receive the gift of eternal life through personal faith in Jesus - is to be blessed with the joy of everlasting newness - within your own heart.
