Dear Friends, Even the remote prospect of war is a dark cloud on the horizon. As the possibility of a real war gets ever closer the sky seems to get much darker - who knows what the outcome might be. Some wars are fought for defensive and entirely honourable reasons - they are perceived to be necessary. At such times the courage and sacrifice of those involved is simply astonishing - and very humbling. But not all wars are of the same kind. Military Wars Military warfare by its very nature is often indescribably terrible, horribly destructive and hideously painful. It usually means that nice, normal, ordinary people are left with emotional, mental and physical scars that last a very long time. Other Wars Other kinds of warfare are all too familiar. We speak of fighting crime, resisting evil and overcoming the problem of poverty. Likewise there is a constant battle to be fought against ignorance and prejudice, hatred and injustice. We are all involved. The War Against God Few seem to realise that the human race is engaged in a war against God - that every sin is an act of open hostility. When we willingly give way to things like pride, jealousy and lust we make it quite clear whose side we are on - and it is not God's. Reconciliation Thankfully there is away of reconciliation and God himself has provided it. In an act of amazing love, God sent His own Son into the world. Jesus died upon the cross. He gave up His life for sinners - for His enemies. Every sinner who repents and trusts Christ is immediately reconciled with God.
