The Value of the Ordinary

The prevailing uncertainty of the present, serves to emphasise the value of the ordinary. Things we might have done thoughtlessly only a short time ago, now seem to awaken a certain sense of appreciation - even boring things become beautiful when the alternative is fearfully ugly.

There is a lesson here - people who derive no pleasure from everyday life, rarely find contentment.

Some seem to believe that Christianity demands that we give up everything that is enjoyable about human life - my understanding is that true Christianity enriches life and invests every aspect of our experience with new meaning.

There are therefore, few things more valuable than an ordinary human life lived Godwards, but sadly, such a life by virtue of its rarity becomes something quite extraordinary!

GENESIS 5: 21-24
When Enoch had lived 65 years, he became lhe father of Methuselah. And after he became the father of Methuselah, Enoch walked with God 300 years and had other sons and daughters. Altogether, Enoch lived 365 years. Enoch walked with God, then he was no more, because God took him away.

HEBREWS 11: 5 & 6
By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that He did not experience death; he could not be found, because God had taken him away. For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God. And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him, must believe that he exists, and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
