From the Revd. Nansi Davies, Curate. Dear Friends, During the month of April we will be starting out on Holy Week, with it's culmination in the solemn commemoration of the Passion and Death of Our Lord and his glorious Resurrection. To Christians Holy Week is called the "week of salvation". As I write we are halfway through Lent and a small group of us from each of the Parishes in this Group are meeting each week to consider and learn more deeply the meaning of this eternal truth which we celebrate week by week in our services of the Holy Eucharist. Each week we proclaim our faith and belief in God's redeeming love in Jesus Christ, born of Mary ...crucified under Pontius Pilate ...raised from the dead in glory on the third day. Easter is the Crown of the Church's year, as we enter into the meaning and mystery of His Cross and Passion and come to share in the power of His mighty Resurrection. Holy Week services, which begin on Palm Sunday, are taken from the four Gospels, which provide us with a detailed picture of the events of Holy Week. Here the centrality of the Cross of our faith becomes immediately apparent as the Gospel writers describe Our Lord's last week in Jerusalem. They tell us with startling clarity the grim reality of Our Lord's sufferings, but also with that same clarity and assurance they proclaim the astounding fact of the Resurrection. In watching with our Lord in Holy Week, we do not watch alone. There are others with us in the Upper Room, in Gethsemane, on the way to the Cross and at the tomb. Christians across the world will be keeping watch as well as those who have died in the faith of Our Lord and who have become partakers of the resurrection life.
Holy Week and Easter are inseparable so do try to join in the services that will be
taking place which enable all of us to share in this time of commemoration and
celebration. Hugh Trenchard joins me in sending you every Blessing at this Holy Season. Yours in Christ
