CAERWENT COMMUNITY COUNCIL Residents attended our meeting in January to express their concern over the lack of Police presence at our meetings. As reported in last month’s Newsletter, we have made various representations to the Police at various levels but without any result to date. The advice given to the complainant was to write to the Chief Constable. If anyone wishes to support our efforts to re-establish the Police visits so that concerns can be expressed and information or incidents passed on to the community then please assist by writing your own complaint. The more letters they have the better is the usual situation. On the subject of complaints, we are most concerned at the reports of drug abuse in the area. This cannot be tolerated and representations have been made to the authorities about it. We will keep residents informed of our progress on this. We have discussed the matter of the open spaces on the Merton Green development with the developer and regret that these are unlikely to be released until the end of the project as they relate to sales areas. However we will continue to ask and would hope that some progress can be made. Questions have been raised regarding the monies that will be paid for community benefit by the developer of Merton Green. This, the Section 106 money, will be held by MCC and allocated as decided by the 106 Working Group of Officers and Members and ratified by Cabinet. This will be after bids for funding are invited which will be later in the program. On the subject of School Lane, the traffic impact survey is ongoing and we await the results. The Group in Crick that are working towards creating a wildlife reserve are making progress with MCC Estates Department who are now assisting in the project. We wish them every success.
