CAERWENT COMMUNITY COUNCIL If you live in the Carrow Hill/Highmoor Hill areas you may well be wondering what has happened to the road works gang. Well, funds permitting. they will be back as soon as possible to carry on with the repairs after which the lane will be top dressed to protect the work done and hopefully ensure a much longer life. Recently several Highways Officers took a tour of the area and checked with us on many aspects of work required including the progress on the lanes. You may be aware that The Local Development Plan is being prepared by Monmouthshire County Council and there has been a request for the nominated candidate sites to be published. At an appropriate time when there is some clarity to the matter, we will ensure that the possible sites earmarked for development in the area are well publicised. In the meantime the sites under consideration are on MCC’s website www.monmouthshire.gov.uk. For those of you who would prefer to stay off the website they are: Land opposite Eastgate Crescent, Caerwent Land at Bradbury Farm, Crick Land at Crick Five Lanes Transfer Station, Caerwent Caldicot Road, Caerwent Land between East View & Quarry Cottage, Caerwent Land adjacent Dewstow Road, Caldicot Land to the rear of 68, 72 & 74 Church Road, Caldicot Land east of Church Road, Caldicot Land off Church Road, Caldicot It must be stressed that these are only Candidate Sites and no decision has been taken for any form of development. However, as the plan develops and by 2011 when it will be complete, it will have become much clearer which of these Sites are to be put forward (if any). We will keep you informed from time to time of any aspects of progress that are likely to affect this area. The matter of ragwort is of great concern at Merton Green. After representation to the developer, they have undertaken to have it sprayed in the Spring. In the meantime let us hope that we can get them to cut the area. Some time ago when the Public Meeting was held regarding Merton Green, MCC Highways promised that a further consultation with the public would be held, hopefully in the Autumn to discuss potential traffic problems. This would not just be in respect of the developments in Caerwent but also at other sites in the area, such as the development of Severn Tunnel Junction and the possibility of an M48 junction. A considerable amount of preparation work has been undertaken in this regard and it is hoped this will be placed before the Community Council early in the New Year prior to an open Public consultation. We will obviously keep residents informed on this. By the time you read this, a meeting will have taken place between Barratts and Welsh Water regarding work which is required in Caerwent regarding the existing sewage problems as well as the consequences of the development. We will let you know what the outcome is. Would anyone like an allotment? No promises but land could be made available if enough people are interested - It really is up to you! Please let us know your thoughts.
