CAERWENT COMMUNITY COUNCIL Happy New Year! It used to be “lock up your Daughters” now its lock up your fuel! Diesel, especially from lorries, is being stolen from vehicles parked up over night. The high value and relative ease of stealing it is becoming quite a problem, so be vigilant. Merton Green is progressing. We are informed that the site layout and several other matters have now been ironed out, at least to the satisfaction of the Planning Officers of MCC. Barratts have now been invited to submit a detailed Planning application based on the negotiations thus far. When these are available there will be a Public exhibition of the plans which Barratts have indicated they’ll attend. As soon as we know when that will be, we will put notices in notice boards, the Post Office etc. Please be on the lookout. On the subject of developments, Bradbury Farm in Crick will almost certainly be an issue in 2008. Obviously we will keep residents informed of any proposals. It is difficult to predict time scales etc as the Environment Agency are involved. However, watch this space. It will not have gone unnoticed that the A48 has had a lot of work done on it of late as well as the cycle path etc. Residents of Highmoor Hill and Shirefields could be forgiven for asking why their lanes are still not done. We are keeping up the pressure for these lanes, but MCC resources are very stretched and we will have to be patient. However, we still require this work to be done and will continue to keep the situation to the fore. We are also promised that work to the footpaths in Llanfair Discoed will also be carried out soon. In these harsh economic times it is not always possible to carry out programmes as set when emergencies crop up. Resources have to be diverted according to need. However, as soon as the opportunity arises MCC will revert to the proposed plans and we will keep up the pressure for this work to be carried out. Hopefully, by the time this Newsletter is published there will be a traffic island near the Shirenewton junction at Crick. Work has been unable to begin until photoelectric equipment became available, hence the delay. This island should have the effect of slowing down traffic and making it safer for residents to enter and leave their properties. Phil Murphy Chairman
