Caerwent Community Council

Chairman's Report

November 2007

CAERWENT COMMUNITY COUNCIL

To those of you who attended the Remembrance Day Service at Caerwent on 11th November, thank you.  It was good to see such a large turn out again.  Judging from the order of service leaflets that were handed out there were in excess of 180 people there.  Luckily the weather held off, it looked like we might get wet at one point.

Regrettably there are more signs of drug taking in the area.  Caerwent toilets have clearly been used recently for such activity.  Please, if you are aware of any drug problems let the Police know.

We have warned in previous newsletters about distraction burglaries and, in an attempt to make people more secure, the “Bobby” scheme has gone into St Stephens and Highfield to see what extra security can be put in place.  The matter has also been referred to the Housing Associations, which very shortly will include Monmouthshire Housing.

Did you get to know about the PACT meeting on 23 October?  Keep an eye out for notices regarding these; they are a very good way of getting your concerns known.

However, any matter that concerns you can be referred to this Council via a Member or the Clerk whose contact address is below.

On Police matters again – there has been a speeding survey in the area and during it a high proportion of those monitored would have been charged if that had been the purpose of the exercise.  Next time it could be, so be warned.

We are having continued problems with electric fences across Public Footpaths.  They should not be present in any case and we would ask anyone in a position of placing fences to be aware of such footpaths.

The Community Questionnaire is in the process of collation and is progressing well.  The work is being done by the U3A and we are grateful to them for their assistance.  As soon as we can get the survey published we will arrange a meeting and get them out to you.

May we take the opportunity to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous and Healthy New Year.
