Caerwent Community Council

Chairman's Report

Feb 2007

CAERWENT COMMUNITY COUNCIL

A matter was brought to our attention that delivery lorries are causing damage in lanes, which could be avoided if Companies concerned are advised that larger type vehicles are not suitable.  Could we please ask residents to consider this when ordering goods that may arrive on an unsuitable vehicle?

Complaints have been made that children are causing a nuisance in the toilet area in Caerwent when they are dropped off the School Bus. If your child could be implicated in this matter please advise them that the complainant has referred the matter to the Police who may well attend at an appropriate time.

The present situation regarding Merton Green still prompts regular questions and in view of the fact that a Planning application is near, we intend to include a regular update in this Newsletter.  The land is to be sold to Barretts and will probably go through at the end of March.  Preliminary drawings submitted are not acceptable to the Planning Officers at MCC and problems associated with any forthcoming applications are hopefully being sorted out at this stage, rather than later in the process.  Officers will brief this Council in the very near future and we will hope to give you the results of that briefing in the next Newsletter.

There has been some adverse publicity regarding the Wormtech operations in the MoD base.  We understand that the Environment Agency and Officers of MCC have carried out unannounced spot checks and so far the complaints have not been upheld.  However any further matters which come out of the investigation will be reported to residents.

Hopefully by the time this Newsletter is published the central reservation will have been re-instated at Crick.  About time we hear you cry!  Lets hope we don’t experience further delays.

Don’t forget the Community Questionnaire, which is coming out in March.  Please complete it - we need your views.

On a final note, the Police are warning of bogus Water Board officials who ask to inspect your taps.  They seem to be using a blue Renault Laguna registration number R67 CWO.  Should you spot this vehicle in the area please call 999.  It appears that one person keeps your attention whilst the other burgles your property.  So be warned!
