Caerwent Community Council

Chairman's Report

Dec 2006

Caerwent Community Council

May we start by wishing you all a happy and prosperous New Year.

Hopefully you were spared the attentions of the Christmas thieves. Be aware, crime has increased in the area recently. Lets hope it’s a temporary situation.

A big “thank you” to those in the Shirefield and Highmoor Hill areas in particular who have heeded the call for slower speeds. What about a New Year resolution to keep speed down in the lanes.

The preparatory work on the Community Questionnaire has been completed and has gone to print. We hope to get them out to everyone in early February and collect them about a week later. Please fill them in when you get your copy. It will help us to help you.

Are you one of the people who have had trouble following their Planning application or were waiting so long for it to be processed? Then we may have good news. Monmouthshire County Council has put an enormous effort into solving the many problems and frustrations over Planning matters. The back log of applications has been reduced considerably and all new applications from early in the New Year will be able to be followed online far easier than they have been. Lets hope that this frustration is coming to an end.

Thank you to all those who complained about the low flying helicopter in Llanfair Discoed a few weeks ago. We have passed on the concerns to the MoD. Don’t forget the exercises in the Base. They will go on into February.

Monmouthshire County Council have decided to sell a piece of land in Lawrence Crescent.  It is early days yet and there are no proposals to report at present. When there are we will let you know.

The Police are in favour of speed reductions in Crick. The more representations on this the better, so write in please. The best way is for as many people as possible to write individual letters. This is far more effective than petitions. The section of the A48 past the Dinham area of Caerwent is being considered for 30 mph in view of the development due to take place there. Should the area covered by this restriction be extended?  Should the possible restriction in Crick just apply between the Motorway and the dual carriageway?  We await your views with interest.
