We hope you had a good Summer and are refreshed and ready to face the world.

Those who depend on the number 73 bus thought that their world was going to be a much more difficult place.  However, many certainly made their voices heard at a Public Meeting attended by David Davies AM MP and an Officer of Monmouthshire County Council.  The result of the pressure is a new service provided jointly by Stagecoach and Francis Drake Travel.  Stagecoach will still provide the school service and the public are able to use those buses.  MCC and Newport City Council will continue to subsidise these buses.  However, the Francis Drake service will be two hourly.  Attached is a timetable for those who do not already have one.

Don’t forget the “Grass Routes Bus” that is providing an “on demand” service.  There is one already operating from Caldicot and soon the Lower Wye area bus will also serve the Caerwent area as the Caldicot bus now does.  Details of this service are in the Caerwent Post Office. 

Those concerned at the possibility of a Night Club at the Wentwood Inn put up very good arguments at a recent Licensing meeting and were successful in curbing the terms of the Licence.  We still have to monitor the project and if the terms of the Licence are not adhered to then the matter can be looked at again.

Trading Standards have issued a warning about rogue traders often calling themselves “Unique Home Improvements”.  Be careful, they seem to be targeting vulnerable people quoting a reasonable price then charging a fortune for a “shoddy” job.  Be warned, if you have a problem call Trading Standards on 01633 644102.

Negotiations with the possible Developers of Merton Green are progressing and moves are afoot to try to secure the Developers contribution known as Section 106 Money to secure the Old Gym facilities. This is on going and we will keep you informed of events.
