Caerwent Community Council Well! It’s about to happen by the look of it! What are we talking about? Dog faeces on the Roman walls and, despite all the warnings which regularly appear in this article the continued lack of consideration, bags of faeces hanging on fences instead of being taken away - who was assumed to be collecting these? and lots of it under foot is about to result in the only Cadw Site where dogs were allowed being closed to dog owners. What a pity Would it have taken that much of an effort to clear this up? We understand that prohibition signs will shortly be placed on site. On another waste matter, fly tipping is on the increase again and CCTV is being used to identify culprits in the general area but especially in Wentwood. All Monmouthshire residents are able to take such items to the Waste Transfer Site at Five Lanes. The rule of thumb is that if the item would go into a furniture van if you moved, they will take it. There should be no reason therefore for the countryside to be spoilt in this way. Crick residents are expressing concerns again regarding the speed of traffic on the A48 and adjoining roads too. Please keep an eye on your speed in the area. The camera will be about. Many of you will be aware that many years ago there was a fund set up to build a village hall at Llanfair Discoed. This was never actually built but the trustees of the fund have used it to provide play equipment at Llanfair Discoed and Trewen. There is a sum left which the trustees would like to find a use for prior to winding the Trust up. If anyone has a particular request for equipment for either of these sites would they please let us know so that we can get the request costed and possibly provided out of the remainder of the money available? The Caerwent Heritage Visitor Centre Project is now at the Draft Report stage. A considerable amount of research has been carried out by the Consultants and Surveyors who have looked into how the building can be preserved, how the exhibits can be accommodated, what facilities can be provided, who can access the facilities, how it can be made financially viable etc etc. We have previously stated that we would hold a meeting to discuss the present state of the venture with residents and interest groups. Obviously now the Draft Report is out we can comment on this and work towards the final version at which time we will call the meeting. There has been previous mention of the Community Questionnaire. This it is hoped will get under way soon. If anyone has any particular question on a local issue (anything) that they would like Public Consultation on would they please contact the Clerk to the Council.
