It seems that the best laid plans can go wrong. In the last newsletter we promised the residents of Well Lane, Llanfair Discoed, that their roadworks would start. Then we had bad weather which delayed the project. However, we are assured that it is only a slight delay. So is the replace- ment of the panels in the Bus Shelter. We are told that their replacement is immi- nent. If anyone can provide a definition of imminent to match that understood by the Local Authority, then we would be pleased to hear it.
The consultation process is over regarding the A48 speed restrictions and during that process no objections were lodged. However, one has been received since from a resident who was concerned that slowing down the traffic could be counter productive and that a slip road should be installed near the speed camera to prevent traffic having to slow down to turn left into Caerwent. It has to be said that cost would probably be prohibitive in this case, but we have passed on the observations to the rel- evant officers anyway. We will need to see what happens when the speed restrictions have been in place a while and the exten sion to the central reservation is in place at that point.
Gray Hill has its new gates and fences and will soon have another. We have reported on this before but the request for motorcycle scramblers to stop using the hill has gone unheeded. The area is most unsuitable for this activity so could it stop please.
We are having another attempt at getting the disabled ramp in Caerwent (behind Maybury) altered to be more suitable. We have also requested that kerbs be modified in Llanfair Discoed. Do you know of another site where the disabled are at a disadvantage? Please let us know if you do.
The two benches on the A48 at Crick will soon be repaired and made more accessible. What other amenities arc damaged? Let us know please.
We have been notified that fly tippers are about. Bedheads, mattresses etc are being dumped. If you see anyone doing this please report it. It you are doing it (which I very much doubt) then the tip is just down the road. Please use it. If you wish to contact us, details are below.
If anyone wants to e-mail the Council on any matter the address is CaerwentCouncil@aol.com.
