We hope you all had a good break and are refreshed for the run up to Christmas which will be on us before we know it. Before then we have to fill the vacancy on this Council at Llanvair Discoed. You will be aware from previous months newsletters that notices were issued inviting an election to be called if sufficient electors wanted one. No such approach was made and therefore the existing Council members have the facility to co-opt. Anyone interested should write to the Clerk of the Council as follows: Mrs L McKeon Clerk, Caerwent Community Council, Mayfield, Pill Row, Caldicot, Monmouthshire NP26 5JD Email to CaerwentCouncil@aol.com. At the last council meeting great concern was expressed about winter flooding especially at the Fives Lanes/A48 area. County Councillor Graham Down is looking into the possibility of getting the various agencies together to see what can be done. We will keep you informed of developments. Bollards were installed at Highmoor Hill in an attempt to keep the Village Green intact. Someone however seems to have taken great delight in removing one within the first day. It was recovered from the nearby wood. What possible reason could there have been for this act? Lets hope that there is no repeat of this. For those of you that have not noticed the speed camera on the A48 near the east junction at Caerwent BEWARE. The Llanvair Village Hall fund's offer of further play equipment at Trewen and Llanvair Discoed has been taken up and installed. Please look after it and take your litter home. Hopefully bins will be installed in due course but unsightly litter is so easily avoided. Further progress has been made on Gray Hill in starting to clear bracken etc and work will soon commence on footpaths, fences, gates, notices etc. In years to come there should be quite a change up there. There will be a report in the next Newsletter on talks with CADW about their sites in the areas. A meeting arranged with CADW took place too late to include in this one. Some of the community benches have become unsafe and will be replaced. The others will be renovated. The one at Crick is particularly bad. Please take care in using it. If anyone wants to e-mail the Council on any matter the address is CaerwentCouncil@aol.com. Phil Murphy Chairman, Caerwent Community Council |
