It has been a quiet month and therefore not much to report on. The archaeological excavations are progressing on Gray Hill. If there are any significant finds we will let you know in due course. Further plans are being formulated regarding the clearing of the bracken to try to re-establish the natural heathland. Residents of Caerwent Brook are concerned about the possible uses that the Quarry might be put to. No planning application has come in yet and therefore we have no indication of the new owner's intentions. County Councillor Graham Down is keeping an eye on the situation. There has been an unfortunate situation in Llanvair Discoed in that Councillor Micklethwait has resigned. This means that we are looking for someone to take his place. Should anyone be prepared to take up what is a very interesting position please let us know. Llanvair Discoed's 30 m.p.h. signs are being looked into. We will let you know what is proposed regarding possible re-positioning so that they are more visible. Caerwent's faulty play equipment at the Playing Fields has now been repaired. If anyone sees any damage of equipment at any of the sites please let us know. No-one wants to see a child injured. Two new seats have been installed in the area - one at Trewen in the recreation area and one at Llanvair Discoed. Further play equipment will soon be installed there to extend the limited facilities. No news at presenting regarding Caerwent's floodlighting of the Roman wall. We expect to give more information next month. The proposed telecom mast at The Cayo has been refused. However this has gone to the National Assembly on appeal. The Golden Jubilee celebrations seem to have been very enjoyable everywhere with large attendances. It was good to see such large turnouts to local events whatever the stimulus. There seems to be a new spirit of co-operation in the community. Long may it last.
