It has been a relatively quiet month with several matters of general concern and interest being on hold at present. These include the filling of potholes and generally improving the surface of the lane on Gray Hill. This is because the road improvement job where the material is coming from has been delayed. Another is the inspection of the St Brides area regarding the sewage problem in periods of flood. A meeting is due to take place with Wessex Water to try to resolve the problem. We will let you know what the outcome is. There is still no progress over the matter of the east junction into Caerwent and despite correspondence from members of the public about traffic calming, verge maintenance etc, there has been no response from County Hall relating to resolving our concerns in this matter. We will continue to press for action. This also relates to Llanvair Discoed and Crick. Further facilities at each of the Trewen and Llanvair Discoed play areas have been commissioned and will be installed as soon as possible. There will also be improvements to the safety surfacing at Llanvair Discoed. County Farms have carried out repair work on their land at Crick and further work will be carried out in the gullies to try to prevent flooding this winter. Lets hope its successful. There seems to be some misunderstanding regarding the low flying military aircraft. We have over the years got quite used to these flights, and the vast majority of the local residents support the need for training and accept that this area is used for that purpose. The Community Council certainly subscribe to that point of view. However, there have been some occasions lately where members of the public have expressed concern regarding what are perceived to be lower than usual passes. As regards the Training Area, the Ministry of Defence have confirmed that greater use is to be made of tghe Caerwent Base for military training purposes. Residents will therefore experience an increase in road and rail traffic and there may be some increased noise but this will be kept to an absolute minimum and, wherever possible, plenty of notice will be given. There is also a possibility of light industrial or warehousing uses for the site and, where appropriate, sections will be let off so that the site can be made commercially viable to preserve its use as a training site and lessen the risk of some future review of its use.
