This month's Council meeting started with a visit from a member of the Community concerned at
the lack of maintenance of CADW sites, especially for the new coach park in Caerwent. These
concerns are being passed on to CADW and we will try to ensure that they are dealt with.
The discussion also extended to the "Blue Peter Rate" scheme unit by Local Authorities to transport children to school, which was not available during the summer period. It was also the case that the whole matter of school transport needed looking into. County Counsellor Graham Down is taking this matter up and therefore any observations regarding school transport would be welcome. We will pass them on to him. In last months Newsletter we omitted to give credit to Councillor Down for his considerable efforts regarding local speed concerns and for this we apologise. Any constituent can raise their concerns with us directly during the fifteen minutes set aside for public participation between 7.00pm and 7.15pm. Gwent Police are looking for input towards the formulation of the Annual Policing Plan. If you have any specific views then let us know by the next council meeting on 11 October. Drug related thefts still present a problem so please be vigilant in locking doors etc especially on garden sheds. There has been no further progress with the "Poor Wood" and the proposed new access at Llanmellin. More news as we get it. We hope to have a solution to the Crick flooding problem at last. Works are, we are assured, imminent! The bus shelters are to be installed at Eastgate in Caerwent. The proposed new shelter next to the toilets will not be provided due to residents' objections. The problem with the private road at Highmoor Hill has raised its head again. Advice from the Monmouthshire County Council is that residents should take the matter up with Hanson Quarries regarding its condition. At last we seem to have a site meeting arranged to try to solve the sewage problem at St Brides. Wessex Water will be sending an Incident Supervisor shortly. More as we get it. We close this month with some useful addresses: - Complaints regarding service from the Post Office. 'Postwatch' advises contacting:-
If anyone wants to e-mail the Council on any matter the address is CaerwentCouncil@aol.com.
