The family lived at Hillside Cottage, Caerwent. His father is remembered making coffins there, as part of the local funeral provision organised sometimes by Mr Drower, sometimes by himself. He is pictured here making a wagon wheel in the yard of The Ship. William himself is named on the Memorial in the Chapel. Edie, his half sister, still lives in the village and a lot of other relations live locally. |
William’s father came from the Bicca Common area and was a wood worker. William’s mother died young and has a gravestone in Caerwent churchyard. His father married again and around the time of the first World War,
