Caerwent Power Station

Newcomers to Caerwent may be surprised to hear of the existence of power stations in Caerwent.  In fact there were two, serving primarily the Royal Naval Propellant Factory, still a military area, north of the A48.  Their chimneys would have made them familiar landmarks to long established residents but this is the first photo that has come to the notice of the Trust.

This one has been completely demolished.  It stood about a quarter mile directly up the road from the west gate of the Factory.  You may just be able to make out the camouflage paint, for of course it was constructed during WW II.  The other power station is the most prominent of the buildings still visible from the dual carriageway but alas, has lost its chimneys.
